launched in 2016 Gretchen Bohling Design is a fashion brand promoting ethical and sustainable design. at gbd we offer a private label collection of handmade to order garments which are available for sale online and at our studio - we create one of a kind bespoke custom garments for our clients hoping to have a truly unique piece - we also provide custom tailoring services for men + women ranging from basic alterations/mending to out of the box “fixes” in order to save your clothing - all at our studio in downtown Des Moines located in the mainframe arts building at 900 keo way suite 445 des moines iowa 50309.

our mission at gbd is to provide the highest quality sustainably handmade wardrobe for our clients and to educate them on how to maintain an ethical wardrobe through the use of our many services that promote and embody the slow fashion movement. we are proud to create minimal fabric waste while providing a product of the highest quality in the industry. Each garment is handmade with care and expert attention to detail. We re-use all the fabric scraps we do accumulate or donate them to other artisans and art teaching outlets in the Des Moines area.

Gretchen Bohling is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago, she graduated in 2010 with her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with a focus in Fashion Design. Gretchen started working in the fashion Industry in 2008 while attending school. She has an extremely well-rounded resume having worked in wholesale, retail, styling, dressing, alterations, and design.
